Ingredients
- 1 package yeast
- 5 cups whole wheat pastry flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup all-natural sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup margarine
- 2 cups skim milk, with 2 teaspoons of lemon juice mixed in
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F. Soften yeast in 2 tablespoons warm water.
- Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, sugar and baking soda. Blend in margarine (or butter, or your favorite solid butter substitute) with a pastry blender or a fork.
- Add yeast and milk/lemon juice mixture to the dry ingredients to form soft dough. Knead labout 4 to 5 times.
- Roll the dough 1/2-inch thick and cut with biscuit or cookie cutter. Place on greased cookie sheet, and brush the tops with melted butter or margarine if desired.
- Bake at 400 degrees F for 12 to15 minutes, until the biscuits are finished cooking.
