The Protein Power Diet
An Atkins-like diet, the Protein Power diet concentrates on protein intake but does not completely cut out carbohydrates and fat.
What it is: The Protein Power Diet is a calorie-counting diet with a high intake of protein, based on the individual’s level of activity.
How it works: The Protein Power Diet works in three phrases to introduce only the essential amount of carbohydrates into the diet. Exercise and the individual’s own awareness of bodily needs are absolutely essential
What you do: In the first “Intervention” phase, the dieter completely removes all carbs from the diet and focuses on intake of protein. In the second “Transition” phase, the daily carb intake rises to around 15-20 grams. As health and weight goals are met, the individual continues to raise carb levels in the third “Maintenance” phase. The dieter must also exercise to burn fats in this diet.
Benefits: This is a simple diet, which offers long-term maintenance.
Downside: The diet prohibits certain foods, mostly carbohydrates. You have to eat only the most healthful carbs to gain necessary nutrition in this diet.
