Recieved a recipe from my husband's grandmother for Cranberry relish that I have used for 50 years. Keeps for several weeks in the refrigerator but never lasts a week at our house. I double this recipe. I buy the cranberries when they are on sale and fix the relish after I wash and sort the cranberries and grind them while frozen. 2 bags of 12 oz cranberries 1 huge navel orange 2 red delicious apples peeled, cored and quartered. Walnuts or grapes if wanted. I never use them. 1/2 cup to 1 cup of sugar or substitue as needed. Cut off end of orange and quarter orange and peel off membrane. Grind all in the grinder and when thawed the sugar has melted and you will know if you want more sugar. DELICIOUS!! Make a wonder relish with meat or sandwiches.

@tap26us 6669036: This recipe calls for 2 1/4 pounds sugar substitute or real sugar. There are also 4 1/2 pounds of cranberries in this recipe. Since cranberries are naturally very tart, you need a lot of sweetness to counteract their flavor. Hope this helps! -- Editor of FaveHealthyRecipes

Is this recipe wrong? Please verify if the recipe actually calls for 2 1/2 lbs of sugar substitute. Thanks.

This receipe sounded just like something I needed. There will be no way I will make this 2 1/2 lbs. of sugar substitute is not a good thing.

2 1/4 pounds of sugar substitute probably has the sweetness equivalent to 5 pounds of granulated sugar. Someone will go into a fake-sugar-coma if they consume these...hehe sugar humor.
