The Peanut Butter Diet
What it is: The Peanut Butter Diet is based on a study at Pennsylvania State University that concluded peanut butter contains significant health benefits. The diet, written by Holly McCord from Prevention magazine, focuses on consuming a tablespoon of peanut butter each day.
How it works: The PSU study showed that those who ate peanuts or peanut butter were consuming the proper amount of vitamins and nutrients in their diet each day. Nuts are also high in monosaturated fat, which has been linked to lower cholesterol.
What you do: Dieters are advised to take a tablespoon of peanut butter, as well as 45 minutes of exercise daily. The peanut butter plan recommends that female dieters consume 1,500 calories/day and male dieters consume 2,200 calories/day. The meal plan also requires eating nine servings of fruit and vegetables a day.
Benefits: Following the diet closely may lead to weight loss and lower cholesterol.
The Down Side: The peanut butter diet is essentially your typical calorie counting and exercise heavy diet plan.
