Authentic Homemade Bagels
"Bagels are magic. Anyone who knows a thing or two about bread, dough and things yeasty will work out that if you stick a bit of yeast dough into boiling water the yeast will be killed off and there’s no way it can come back to life and rise further in the oven. But bagels do - zombie breads or what? My recipe gives them a slow and low rising, much better with a lot of bread. I make them at home and save a grand not having to fly from here to New York or Montreal for a decent bagel."

After you try these made from scratch bagels, you will never buy those store bought ones again! It does require quite a bit of prep work, but it is well worth it! You can top them with whatever spices / seeds / toppings you want and even make a variety to bring to a brunch. They make the best sandwiches! There is a local bakery where I live that cuts up their day old bagels, toasts them with seasonings, and sells them as bagel chips. I plan to try this with these. You don't have to worry about them going bad because they will be gone in no time!
