Top 12 Low Fat Dairy Recipes and How to Make Yogurt

Not only does low-fat dairy provide tons of calcium, but it can actually lower your blood pressure. A study by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed people who consume more low-fat dairy have a lower risk of hypertension than those who consume less low-fat dairy. This is why the National Dairy Council is promoting the DASH Diet, or Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension, which includes at least 3 daily servings of low-fat dairy every day. In fact, studies have shown that those who follow the diet are more effective in lowering high blood pressure than by simply eating fruits and vegetables.

How to Make Yogurt

Yogurt is a lot easier to make than most people think. It just requires a lot of waiting time, so make sure you prepare it at least six hours before you are planning to eat it. You also need to be careful to stay away from yogurt recipes that call for whole milk or half and half. Remember, it's the low-fat dairy that is the healthiest! Try adding in your favorite fresh, canned or frozen fruits for a unique flavored yogurt of your own. We like to top our with a fresh mixed berry compote.
