- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 28-ounce can tomatoes
- 1 quart water
- 4 low sodium beef bouillon cubes
- 2 celery stalks
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1/2 small head of cabbage, chopped
- 3 carrots, sliced
- 3 potatoes, cubed with the skins still on
- 8 ounces okra
- 8 ounces corn, canned or frozen
- 8 ounces peas, canned or frozen
- 1 teaspoon honey
- 2/3 cup dry red wine
- 1/2 can light beer
- 1 tablespoon parsley flakes
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1 pinch cayenne pepper, or to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon celery seed (optional)
- 1 pinch rosemary (optional)
Instructions
- Brown beef in skillet. Drain.
- Add beef, canned tomatoes, water, bouillon, celery, onion, carrots, potatoes, okra, corn, peas, honey, wine, beer, parsley, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, cayenne pepper and spices to a large slow cooker.
- Cook mixture on high for 4 to 5 hours or on low for 8 to 10 hours.
- Add cabbage during the final hour of cooking time.
- Serve with crackers and a salad, if desired.
